What is Farcaster (in-app trading)?

Farcaster is a decentralized social network whose main client includes a built-in crypto wallet with token swaps. Users can see a token in a cast or a creator's profile and buy it in a few taps, and mini apps run trading and games inside the feed.

Merkle Manufactory built Farcaster and in 2025 pushed a trader-first approach: a wallet in every account, Pro Trading screens and token profiles. On January 21, 2026 Neynar announced it was acquiring Farcaster and would run the protocol, the client and Clanker.

Neynar said wallet trading and all swap capabilities would continue unchanged, along with lower fees for Pro holders. Farcaster Pro is a paid subscription that also adds longer casts and other social extras.

Mini apps, formerly Frames v2, are web apps that run inside casts and can request wallet actions such as swaps through the SDK, which brings third-party trading tools into the feed.

Farcaster itself is a protocol with open data on Snapchain, so trading activity is tied to a public social identity unless users keep separate accounts.

Good fit for

  • Active Farcaster users trading Base social tokens
  • Pro subscribers who swap often

Not ideal for

  • Traders needing charts, limits and fast sniping
  • Users who want trading kept private
